How Does Your Small Business Do Its Accounting?

I’m researching how very small businesses (1–8 people) track their money and do their accounting, and I’d love to hear how you do it.

I’ve built accounting software before, for K-12 school districts and a lot of web stores, but that work hasn’t taught me much about how a small company runs its books day to day. Hearing real stories from people living it would save me from a lot of bad guesses.

Could I get 20 minutes of your time? I’d like to hear what you use, how you landed on it, what’s annoying, and who else touches the books. No pitch or demos, just some questions about your setup.
